NemaX® Grab

The grab that will increase your productivity by at least 10%, with the lowest maintenance cost ever.

Below is an example based on iron ore handling. Use the calculator to estimate potential performance gains for your own operation.

15% Lighter = more bulk per cycle

20% Faster closing and opening = more cycles per hour

30% Larger footprint = faster cleaning up

Features & Specifications

Most efficient solution for your dry bulk handling

Through exhaustive computer simulations, Nemag has succeeded in developing a new generation of patented grabs: the NemaX®.

NemaX IA test

10% higher productivity

This innovative & strong grab delivers over 10% higher productivity than all comparable clamshell grabs, with the lowest maintenance costs ever.

The smart design using high-tensile, wear-resistant steel and an advanced bearing system ensures a strong, lightweight grab with high productivity.

Extended free digging

Because NemaX® carries less dead-weight, more of your crane’s capacity goes into payload. Combine that with a shorter open/close cycle and you get more productive cycles per hour.

The bigger footprint and high stability guarantee a consistent filling of the grab, resulting in an extended free digging phase combined with a shorter cleaning-up phase. The result is a shorter turnaround time and lower demurrage, vessel after vessel.

70% fewer moving parts

With 70% fewer moving parts compared to conventional clamshell grabs, the NemaX® features a highly simplified and efficient design.

The mechanism operates with only two rotating points, reducing mechanical complexity and minimizing wear on critical components. As a result, stress on the closing ropes is significantly reduced, contributing to a longer lifespan and lower maintenance requirements over time.

This graph shows how unloading productivity increases with the NemaX opposed to a clamshell grab.

Highest productivity
  • Deadweight efficiency of only 25–28%

  • 20% faster closing and opening = more cycles per hour

  • Very robust grab mechanism

  • Optimized closing mechanism
Lightweight, yet very strong
  • FEM calculated

  • Extremely torsion resistant

  • High closing force on lip plates

Safest operation
  • Easy access for greasing

  • Simple rope reeving procedure

  • (Dis-)connecting the grab on the ground – no climbing in grab required

Best materials to handle with the NemaX Grab

All Nemag products are highly customizable modular grabs. They are optimized to fit your specific situation (unloading, loading or transshipment) and the type of materials that you handle.

The NemaX dry bulk grab handles these materials best:

  • Iron ore
  • Coal
  • Limestone
  • (Pelletized) bauxite
  • Aggregates
  • Sands
  • Concentrates like zinc, copper or lead
  • Blast furnace sand
  • Mineral sands like rutile or zircon
Quality Assurance

Built to perform
Proven before it ships

Engineered. Tested. Documented. Every grab is verified against documented standards before it leaves our workshop. From simulation and material selection to final inspection, performance is validated before it reaches your terminal.

Product-Feature-Placeholder-04-1

Designed for heavy duty, verified in simulation

Before production begins, geometry, load paths, and structural behavior are analyzed using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Critical wear zones are reinforced and material choices are validated to ensure durability in demanding bulk applications.

Product-Feature-Placeholder-05-1

Everything quality build - all the way from plate to paint

From CNC-cut plates to qualified welding and final assembly, each grab is produced under documented procedures. Material traceability and in-process checks ensure consistent build quality at every stage.

Product-Feature-Placeholder-06-1

Inspected and documented before it ships

Every grab undergoes a structured 60-point inspection during manufacturing and final acceptance testing. Dimensions, weld quality, and functional performance are verified and recorded before shipment.

Service & Maintenance

Keep your operation on schedule.

Planned inspections, clear maintenance guidance, and fast technical support help you avoid unplanned downtime. From commissioning to long-term operation, Nemag supports the performance of your grab throughout its entire lifecycle.

LIFECYCLE SUPPORT FROM DAY ONE

A grab is a complex piece of equipment that cannot simply be sent back to the factory when questions arise. That is why Nemag supports customers on-site and remotely with practical guidance, troubleshooting, and operator training.

From start-up and commissioning to performance optimization and wear assessment, our engineers help ensure your grab operates as intended in real-world conditions.

Grab selection can be hard

Selecting the right grab and ensuring you got all the information for your team can be a challenge. Most common questions are listed below, still need help then contact us.
Safety and compliance accountability for Nemag equipment?

Our grabs are designed to help reduce risk through engineering details (e.g., accessible harness points, smooth/flush contours), and are validated with documented processes (e.g., 60-point inspections, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 certificates, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) summaries, proof-load testing).

Safe operation always depends on trained personnel, correct procedures, and the crane/terminal’s own safety policies.

Maintenance and lead time on spare parts?

Planned inspections at regular cycle intervals (e.g., basic checks around 10.000 cycles; deeper inspections around 100.000 cycles) are recommended by Nemag.

Wear parts and kits are available and can be delivered with your purchase.

Typical dispatch target for stocked parts is under 48 hours to keep downtime low.
